Ashoka Trust for research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) has come up with a pictorial snake poster with text in Kannada as well as in English. Both photographs and nature illustration has been combined in this poster to draw the attention of children. This poster has been distributed free of cost to schools in rural areas, while institutions in urban areas have to pay Rs.100 for the poster which will help us to reprint the posters so that we could distribute to more schools. When I was 5 I had requested my father (ofcourse through Home Minister, my mom) for a bicycle. My father said NO with a reason 'I may end up in unnecessary accidents'.I did fasting for 1 full day (I know Gandhian way when I was 5 ;-) ) for pressurizing my father to buy me a bi-cycle. He buckled at the end of the day and new bicycle was at home next day evening. I donno the cost of the bicycle at that time but it was newly introduce Geared one by BSA.I had bicycle (2nd one) till I completed…

  Magic Puddles, a learning centre for younger children in J P Nagar, had a 3-day stint of telling the children all about the Harvest Festival.  Nandini talked about how Sankranti is celebrated in Karnataka, and Geetu talked about how it is celebrated in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.Here are some of the children, listening to the various fact and myths surrounding the festival!Shreya talked about Lohri, as it is celebrated in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. Many of the children (and adults!) came wearing colourful, festive clothes...and we all joined her in singing one of the Lohri songs!  Sweet Pongal, sugarcane, and…

I had been to visit Kalanjali, a music school in J P Nagar, to talk to people for an article I am writing; and while I was there, I was privileged to see two ladies who are coming there for music lesssons: The lady on the left is Malathi, who is 76 years old; she comes to learn Carnatic music.
