In Bangalore, about 3000 to 3500 tons of garbage is collected every day. On special occasions like Ugadi, Ayudh Pooja, Vijayadashami and Deepavali the amount of garbage (organic waste from flowers, fruits, vegetable, banana leaves, etc) increases by 800 to 1000 tons. This garbage is disposed off in vehicles within 2 to 3 days to recycling units.During this diwali season, the garbage collected in KR Market was around 175 tons which was more than the average of 60 to 70 tons per day. Recently, new bus shelters have come upall over Bangalore. Extensive space has been given over to advertising, and some space has also been allocated, at the top of the bus shelter, to give the name of the bus stop. However, not a single bus shelter has any provision for some essential information...the bus routes stopping at the particular stop. I am not talking about timings as there may not be adhered to at all. Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri.D.V.Sadananda Gowda had a detailed discussion with Shri.V.P.Baligar, CMD, Hudco today (01.10.2011) at New Delhi, about various Hudco assisted  Schemes in Karnataka.  Sri.Suresh Kumar, Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development, Sri.Govinda Karjola, Hon’ble Minister for Kannada and Culture and Sri.V.Dhanajaya Kumar, Special Representative of Government of Karnataka in New Delhi  were present in the meeting.HUDCO, a Government of India subsidiary, has come forward to extend a loan of Rs.700 crore to “Namma Metro” Project of Bangalore. ESAF, a Bangalore based not-for-profit organization that is campaigning to make the city a child friendly one, decided to do its bit to create awareness on the advantage of not using cars.
