Kodava Samaj, Bangalore, will conduct Field Marshall K M Cariappa Memorial Hockey Tournament from 9th to 19th February at KSHA Stadium under the auspices of Karnataka State Hockey Association (KSHA). Karnataka lost bronze medal to Uttar Pradesh in the 38th Junior National Volleyball Championship for Boys, which ended on January 29th in West Bengal. Karnataka ranked fourth in the Boys Championship.UP beat Karnataka by 79-59 (28-26, 25-09, 26-24). Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh won gold and silver medals respectively.In the Girls Championship, Karnataka ranked fifth. The state team was defeated in the quarter final itself by Uttar Pradesh by 96-81 (21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16). West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu won gold, silver and bronze respectively.⊕

Up South at Jayanagar is an exclusive South Indian restaurant which offers combination meals at affordable prices. "We do not have the concept of thalis but we have combo meals", says Vinay Kumar, manager, 23. "There are totally six types of combos, there is lunch combo priced at Rs 85 which has white rice, sambhar, rasam, flavoured rice and a sweet", he explains. There is a wide range of dishes; each dish is accompanied with different types of chutneys and spicy sambhars and also they do not use soda. Up South is easy on the pocket and a fun place…

Our national anthem... it's been one hundred years since the Indian National Anthem was written.  I was much struck by two scenes today. One was at Lalbagh, where I went to see the Republic Day Flower Show. Lalbagh has been, for quite some time now, a "plastic-free" zone. Alas, the plastic-free remains within inverted commas, as the very stalls and shops put up in Lalbagh, to celebrate flowers and greenery, generate an immense amount of trash, which visitors and stall-holders alike leave strewn on the ground, with no thought of how it is to be managed or removed.
