The practice of charging the members of the public for cameras (aftear 8 am or 9 am)at many public spaces is irritating a lot of people. On October 2nd, Prime Minister Modi announced Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Mission Clean India. In his speech, he appealed to Indians to devote 100 hours every year towards the cause of cleanliness. He also stated, “It is our social responsibility as citizens of India to help fulfil Gandhiji's vision of Clean India, by his 150th birth anniversary in 2019.” Since then, the media has been reporting of clean-up drives across the country, involving bigwigs from the industry, celebrities, politicians, NGOs and what not, almost on a daily basis. Yesterday (20th October 2014), the BBMP, Revenue Department and BMTF with support from local Police cleared around 20% of the encroachments around the Allalasandra Lake.    Around 4.1 acres of the 44 acres of lake was encroached. During this demolition drive over six illegal houses and compounds were demolished and close to 1 acre of lake area was recovered.    Yelahanka United Environment Association (YUVA) had taken the lead by submitting complaint letters to Deputy Commissioner, BBMP and BMTF. BBMP and the Revenue Department had conducted a joint survey of the lake two months back and marked the lake area and BBMP had issued notice…

Today, on occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi and the Clean India Mission - Yelahanka United Environment Association (YUVA) organized a lake cleaning program around the Allalasandra Lake in Yelahanka.   Dr Lakshmi from Karuna International Bangalore, along with SWMRT, organized a Poster exhibition that depicted the effect of plastic on the streets on cows that eat them, and solid waste management.   Over 1000 local citizens, including MLA Mr S.R.
