Steel Flyover on hold: Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) force BDA to step back

BDA, under the determined pressure of the citizens’ movement against its steel flyover project, filed an affidavit before the Karnataka High Court on November 3, 2016, that it won’t commence the project for the moment.

This only proves Citizens for Bengaluru’s (CfB) consistent argument that BDA had never observed due diligence or due process on the ill-conceived project but was hurrying through it even though it wasn’t ready with design and feasibility studies. Even the Detailed Project Report for the project was made available only last month after the citizens’ movement gathered momentum.

Already set back by the National Green Tribunal, Chennai branch, order last week to the BDA/GoK to obtain environmental clearance for the project and a four-week stay on execution of the project, the BDA is only trying to stall the inevitable – cancellation of the Tender.

We have seen the obduracy of sections of GoK and BDA in its pursuit of this project in face of objections by mobility and ecology experts and widespread public disapproval of it.

CfB calls upon caring citizens to partcipate in the one-day Satyagraha fast at Freedom Park on Sunday, 6 Nov 2016, to dissuade the BDA and GoK from undertaking any further overt or covert efforts to go ahead with the project by defying or circumventing due process and legal opinion.

Our demand is clear:
